Story of the Apostrophe

POEM IN HONOR OF WC'S 80th ANNIVERSARY

By Linda McGinty

T’was back in 1941

A group of twenty-five

Began our council which we know

At 80 still does thrive.

Throughout the years we’ve grown to be

More vital and diverse.

Our tasks have grown from serving tea

To adding to the “purse.”

The CMA does benefit

From what we give to it.

It’s time and our donations that

Do keep the place quite fit!

We volunteer in many roles;

We staff the info desk;

We’ve worked with teens, donated funds,

And even surveyed guests.

We’ve planned events—those gala ones,

Arranged bouquets each week,

Sought members to increase our fold

And more each year we seek.

Our strengths do lie in many fields;

Our talents do prevail.

We’ve helped create some lanterns and

Prepared invites to mail.

While volunteering is a must,

We like our perks as well.

We love our lectures, tours and trips;

Our luncheons too are swell.

So here today let’s celebrate

Our his’try and our pride.

Enjoy your lunch with Council friends

And think of what a ride

The Womens Council has endured

And may it long abide!
